I have been passionately involved with teaching music for over 16 years. This started when I was asked to teach a course at Brighton College of Technology (in the UK) on guitar playing. I subsequently became a member of the teaching body at BCT for the next 8 years, during which time I devised the syllabus for a number of music courses, covering the subjects of; Jazz, Funk, Mississippi and Chicago Blues and Popular Composition (deconstructing the compositions of Hoagy Carmichael, Carole King, Chuck Berry, Burt Bacharach, Lennon & McCartney and many more inbetween). I have taught at a Maximum Security Prison in the UK and a residential Special Needs school and have extensive experience of working with children and adults with autism. I was a member of the teaching staff on Herbie Flowers’ Rockshops. I’ve been an affiliate teacher to LCM since 1993.
I have balanced a career as a working musician with teaching and am able to share my vast experience with my students. I teach from my studio in Carrboro, NC, offering tuition in guitar (acoustic or electric), bass guitar, songwriting/composition, voice and keyboards.
I tailor lessons to suit each student and cater to the individual’s interests and aspirations.
